Great Falls, VA
Great Falls, Virginia is a short 15 miles northwest of Washington D.C. along the Potomac River. As part of the Washington Metropolitan it lies between McLean, Reston and Herndon. The “Great Falls of the Potomac” River boarder on the northern and eastern side of the community hence where the name comes from.
Great Falls is a unique community that was originally settled in the early 1800’s. The first school house that was built in 1889 still stands today as a historical landmark. Great Falls is made up of neighborhoods old and new, quaint and grandeur. It has a shopping village, restaurants, shops, grocery stores, parks and a golf course.
Some the noteworthy attractions of Great Falls are Great Falls National Park which is a must see. There are two sides to Great Falls National Park, the Virginia side and the Maryland side. There are leisurely paths to see the breathtaking views of the water falls of the Potomac River or for the more adventurous type there are challenging hiking trails. Both sides offer amazing views of a famous American River. Riverbend Park is also another great park located next door to Great Falls that has many things to offer as well. It has a boat ramp for non-motored boats to kayak or canoe and a nature science center to learn about all the native plants and animals. It also has many trails to hike to see native plants, trees and animals. Riverbend Golf and Country Club, Colvin Run Mill, Concerts on the Green, Farmers Market, Katies Cars & Coffee, Annual Children’s Spring Festival are some more of the local attractions.

Great Falls is part of the Fairfax County School system. The elementary schools are Great Falls, Forestville and Colvin Run Elementary. Cooper is the only middle school and Langley is the High School.
L’Auberge Chez Francois, family owned and operated since 1954 is a top rated Washington D.C. restaurant located in Great Falls. Another great social hangout is the Old Brogue Irish Pub with traditional fare and live music. Every Saturday, weather permitting, they have an event in the morning from 6am-9am called Cars and Coffee. It all started in 1983 in Irvine, CA when a few car enthusiast started meeting for coffee with their hot rods. It grew so big, so fast and nationwide. Now it’s a regular event rain or shine every Saturday from 6am to 9am at Katie’s Coffee House in Village Centre in the town of Great Falls.
