Spotsylvania is located off of I 95, midway between Washington DC and Richmond, Virginia. The Courthouse area is centrally located in the heart of Spotsylvania County along US 208.
Spotsylvania County possesses both rural and urban landscapes and is a very family-friendly community with a small hometown feel. Still it offers all the convenience of local stores and businesses that today’s families are searching for. Spotsylvania is also one of the fastest growing counties in Virginia.
The Spotsylvania Courthouse area is known for its historic charm. There are numerous historical attractions from the Colonial and Civil War eras including the old Spotsylvania Courthouse, the Spotsylvania Jail, the Confederate Cemetery, the Spotsylvania Museum, the Spotswood Inn and the Spotsylvania Courthouse Battlefield.
This growing community has attracted many commercial and retail businesses that serve area residents and visitors. As Spotsylvania’s “downtown”, Spotsylvania Courthouse Village is full of shops, restaurants and businesses. The new Merchant Square, located within the Village, is allowing more of them to find a home in Spotsylvania. The Village Pavilion is a gathering place for local concerts and community festivals. Over 25 events are scheduled to take place in the Village in 2016.
Within the boundaries of Spotsylvania, you will find a 13,000 acre lake that offers swimming, sailing, skiing and fishing. Lake Anna is a great place for locals and visitors to enjoy picnicking, horseback riding, bicycling, hiking and camping. The Mattaponi Winery and Lake Anna Winery are in close proximity and offer tours and tastings.
Spotsylvania Courthouse area can be found via many different routes. Whether you want a major route or a scenic drive, you will find it easy to reach.

Reagan National Airport and Dulles International Airport to the north and Richmond International Airport to the south.
Amtrak is available from Fredericksburg and the VRE from Fredericksburg and Route 17.

Spotsylvania County School District has 17 elementary schools, 7 middle schools and 5 high schools. Serving the general Spotsylvania Courthouse area are Robert E. Lee Elementary, Spotsylvania and Post Oak Middle Schools and Spotsylvania High School. Germanna Community College offers residents a local option for affordable higher or continuing education. The University of Mary Washington, located in Fredericksburg and just minutes from Spotsylvania, is one of Virginia’s best liberal arts universities.
